TRAVERSE CITY - State Sen. Howard Walker, R-Traverse City, announced Thursday that he would not seek re-election. Walker said the decision was made after discussions with his family.
"I am proud of my many accomplishments over the past several years, and I thank my supporters, staff and colleagues for their invaluable help and involvement throughout my tenure," Walker said in a statement. "I will continue to represent my constituents for the remainder of my current term and I look forward to working with my colleagues to pursue a dynamic and aggressive legislative agenda over the next 18 months."
In addition to the northern portion of Michigan's lower peninsula, Walker represents Mackinac and Chippewa counties in the eastern Upper Peninsula.
