CHANNING - Clutch plays by Adam Brugman, Jeremy Rae and Anthony Kreis led the Tri-City Northstars baseball team to a 7-6 extra-inning victory over the host Channing Railroaders on Wednesday night and a berth in the Wishigan League championship game.

Right fielder Brugman preserved the win with a throw to catcher Spencer Larson that gunned down a Channing baserunner to end the game.

Rae belted a two-run single in the eighth that broke a 1-1 tie, while Kreis recorded a two-run double to end the six-run Tri-City surge. The latter also hit a single earlier in the contest.

The Railroaders responded with five runs in their half of the eighth, but Brugman ended the rally with his on-target throw.

Larson tied the score 1-1 in the seventh with an RBI-single that scored James Larsen II. Channing pushed across in the fourth when Barry Holsworth knocked in Mike Miller.

Tri-City hurler Adam Gannon got the win. He went 7 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and five walks while striking out 10.

Preston Hutchens earned a save as the Northstars improved to 10-6 overall and 8-5 in league play this season.

Tri-City will next take on the Menominee Storm-Marinette Redbirds winner at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in Menominee.
