Patricia Blake receives the 2013 Heritage Award from Ed Banos, Marquette General Health System chief operating officer, at the MGHS employee picnic held recently. The Heritage Award is presented annually to a deserving Marquette General Hospital retiree. Prior to joining MGH in 1977, Blake worked in St. Paul, Minn., where she graduated from St. Catherine in 1954. She later moved to the Marquette area with her husband Joe, who passed away in 1998. Blake served as Marquette General's Operating Room nurse manager for many years, and collaborated with Northern Michigan University by establishing the NMU Surgical Technician Program. She retired from MGH in 1994, and went to work as a nursing consultant, nursing supervisor in Iron Mountain and briefly with U.P. Home Health and Hospice, before fully retiring in 1998.
