3 directors join SHF board

MARQUETTE - The Superior Health Foundation recently welcomed three new directors to its board.

Included were Robert Cowell of Big Bay, Sheri Davie of Negaunee and William Verrette of Iron Mountain. Their terms will expire on Sept. 1, 2017.

Cowell, a graduate of Michigan State University, is the founding shareholder of Cowell & LaPointe CPA, PC, where he worked as a financial consultant to many members of the medical community until his retirement in 2005. He is now a stockholder and chief financial officer of Team Landmark Inc.

Davie moved to Marquette in 2001 to serve as U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow's regional manager in the Upper Peninsula.

A native of McMillan and graduate of Newberry High School, Davie received her bachelor of science degree in political communication from Lake Superior State University and a master's of public administration certificate from Northern Michigan University.

She is the executive director of the city of Marquette Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. In addition, she and her husband Bill own/operate Davie Multimedia, a multimedia production company.

Her volunteer work in the eastern end of the U.P. includes being president of the Woodside Community Women's Club; facilitator of the Women Business Owners' Forum; chair and member of the EUP Mental Health Board for 10 years serving Chippewa and Mackinac Counties; member of the Kinross Historical Society and the Chippewa County Historical Society; and a member of the Sault Community Foundation Board.

An Iron Mountain native, Verrette is the owner of Champion Inc. and Gundlach Champion Inc. of Houghton. Champion Inc. and its affiliates do business in various areas of the United States. He also owns Verrette Materials Inc., which operates six commercial redi-mix concrete plants in northeastern Wisconsin.

Verrette was previously a member of the Northern Michigan University Development Fund Board of Trustees for 12 years and is a past Chair of the Michigan Tech University Board of Control.

Verrette received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Michigan Tech University. He's also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Owner Principle Manager Program.

The Superior Health Foundation is a conversion 501 c (3) foundation that was created on Sept. 1, 2012, following Duke LifePoint's acquisition of Marquette General Health System.
