MARQUETTE - One of the top fields in the history of the U.S. National Guts Frisbee Championships will be on hand at Marquette's Hurley Field this weekend for the 35th annual event.
Play will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and run until dusk. On Sunday, competition resumes at 10 a.m. and ends with the finals scheduled for 5 p.m.
"We have the young Appleton (Wis.) Assassins trying to 'three-repeat' as U.S. champs," tourney spokesman Craig "Buck" Buchanan said Thursday. "But last year's finalist, the SilverBacks, will also be here.
"The BoomTown Saints from East Lansing are coming up, (as well). A month ago, the Saints beat the Assassins in ... the International Frisbee Tournament (IFT) in Calumet."
Buchanan said this weekend's play will also feature such local teams as O'Mally's Alley, the Swamptown Gunners, Young Guns and Blood and Guts.
"We also expect teams from Illinois, Wisconsin and Ohio," he said, adding 16 teams will comprise the tourney field. "It should be a great weekend for Guts."
Buchanan said it will be Fan Appreciation Weekend at the tourney.
"We want to support our loyal Guts fans who have been with us for 35 years," he said. There will be no admission charged for the tourney.
