BEAVER GROVE, Mich. - Erik Gustaf Wikstrom, age 75, of 6373 U.S. Highway 41 South, Marquette, went home peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, July 23, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital, in the loving, comforting care of his family. He had been a patient at the hospital since Monday.

Erik was born in Marquette on June 18, 1938 to Erik and Elsie (Larson) Wikstrom. He married Sueann Thayer on August 7, 1965 in Marquette. They established their home and raised three children together. He built a home in Carlshend where he resided until 1970 when he returned to Beaver Grove, where he resided most of his life. Erik first worked at Ingalls Saw Mill before beginning a 37 year career at the Empire Mine as a truck driver. He was very proud of the fact that after retirement he went back to Marquette Senior High School at night with his grandchildren. In 2003, Erik and his granddaughter, Ashley (with whom he shared a birthday) graduated together. Erik had a true heart of gold and was one of the kindest, most caring people you could meet. He loved being surrounded by all of his family and friends and sharing time with his grandchildren. He was a gardener, hunter, fisherman, jack of all trades, and a kid at heart. He enjoyed reading his history books and was famous for making his venison beer chili the night before opening day of deer season.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Sueann Wikstrom; his daughter, Samantha (David Monhead) Wikstrom of Beaver Grove; a son, Erik (Phyllis) Wikstrom of K.I. Sawyer; his grandchildren, Ashley (Ben) Grossoehme of Marquette, Jon (Melissa) Wikstrom of Beaver Grove, Leonard (Jen) Wikstrom of Gwinn, David (Kayla) Wikstrom of K.I. Sawyer, Embers (Matt Jewell) Wikstrom of Harvey, Sueann (Keith Black) Wikstrom of Marquette, Grace (Tyler Radtke) Wikstrom of Gwinn, Erik Wikstrom of K.I. Sawyer, and Carl Wikstrom; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Shaw of Marquette and Nancy Burton of Negaunee; a brother-in-law, Forrest Libby of Harvey; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
