NEGAUNEE - The Teal Lake Lodge Free and Accepted Masons No. 202 and Negaunee Order of Eastern Star No. 100, together with the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation, recently awarded five $700 scholarships to graduating seniors Bria Johnson and Dylan Skewis of Ishpeming High School, Evan Fezatt of Negaunee High School, Tabytha Choppa of Republic-Michigamme High School and Addison Hollinshead of Westwood High School.

Monies are generated throughout the year with Lodge Brothers selling snow cones at several of the local festivals and celebrations and hosting a meal for the members just prior to their monthly meetings, with matching funds from the Masonic Charitable Foundation.

The Negaunee OES sponsored three local theological students, Ann Gonyea, William Roth and Adam Mater for scholarships via the Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star of Michigan ESTARL (Eastern Star Training Awards for Religious Leadership) fund. These individuals were awarded with a total of $4,500 to be used for their educational pursuits. The Grand Chapter OES Educational Board awarded another $2,750 to four local college students, Alisha Tilson, Jamie Rosten, Kaylie Tasson and James Pesola.

Members also collected paper products, laundry detergent, toiletries, games, puzzles, books and stuffed animals which were recently donated to the Harbor House for use within their programs. Negaunee OES Worthy Matron, Barbara Gero was appointed to the Grand Chapter's Special Project, Paws for a Cause which is dedicated to raising money for the training of service dogs. The total training cost for each dog is $30,000 and the members have been collecting loose change that will be donated to the Grand Chapters Special Project fund. The OES has also donated funds to these other local/national charities: care packages for National Guard troops stationed overseas, the Patriot Guard, Wounded Warrior, U.P. Honor Flights, Northwoods Air LifeLine, the Shine Circus and several Masonic Youth Foundation organizations.
