MARQUETTE, MI. - Patricia Jean (Elliott) MacDonald held on to her precious life until July 8, 2013, when at age 88, surrounded by family and loving memories, she joined her beloved husband, Joseph W. (Joe) MacDonald on what would have been his 88th birthday.

Upon "Pat's" death her son-in-law said, "I guess she's your dad's birthday present," a heavenly truth, for theirs was a lifetime love story. Patricia, an honest and generous soul who showed kindness to so many, was born July 28, 1924 in Munising, MI to Hubert and Stella Elliott, but considered her hometown to be Marquette, MI. She honorably served the USA in the Women's Army Corp (WAC) 2nd Signal Service Battalion, including service at the Pentagon, from 1944 to 1946. She graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, IL in1950. Pat and Joe, also a MI native, were married November 13, 1950 and remained so for 48 years, until Joe's passing in 1999. In 1958 they moved their young family (three children) to Mesa, AZ for the health of their then-youngest son, Dan.

After arriving in AZ, Pat and Joe had three more children over the next eight years. She worked as an RN for many years, often the "night shift," including work at Mesa Southside Hospital and Mesa Lutheran Hospital, mostly in OB/GYN units, where she brought countless children into the world with great skill until her retirement in the late 1980s. Patricia was also preceded in death by her parents, and by her brother, Hubert (Nick) Elliott. She is survived by her otherbrother, Wayne Elliott (Grace). Patricia was the loving, caring and devoted mother of six children, all of whom survive her: Mary Sweeney (Leonard), Allan, Dan (Wanda Cook-Delery), John (Dana Paschke), Steve (Lupe) and Neil (Annica). She adored, and is also survived by16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews, along with many other dear friends and relatives. A funeral mass to celebrate Patricia's wonderful life will be held Friday, August 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in downtown Mesa, with arrangements being handled by Melcher's Chapel of the Roses. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St. Mary's Westside Food Bank.
