MARQUETTE - It's been nearly a year since the body of Shawn Michael Dollar, 34, was found in an abandoned building in downtown Marquette. Detective Capt. Gordon Warchock said the Marquette City Police Department continues to piece together the events leading to Dollar's death.

Dollar's body was discovered Sept. 14 - six days after he was last seen - on the bottom floor of a vacant building at 231 W. Washington Street. He died of trauma to the body, according to the police.

The case was labeled an "open death investigation" and has remained such, as police continue interviewing people and working with the crime lab to determine whether the death was a homicide or an accident.

"This department takes this case very seriously and we're putting our best efforts forward," Warchock said.

He added that having the cooperation of the community is important.

"If someone has information that they haven't come forward with, please do so," Warchock said.

Those with information are asked to call the police department at 228-0400.
