Legion baseball: Ishpeming Blue Storm facing elimination after loss to Escanaba

MENOMINEE - The Ishpeming Blue Storm opened the American Legion Zone 5 baseball tournament in Menominee on Wednesday with a 5-3 loss to Escanaba and now face Kingsford at 1 p.m. EDT today in an elimination game.

Kingsford fell to Marquette 4-3 in eight innings on Wednesday. The winner of today's 1 p.m. contest faces Channing at 4 p.m. EDT.

The Cubs jumped out to a 4-0 advantage on Ishpeming in the second inning Wednesday.

Devin Olsen's single to center provided the first run for the Cubs, who took advantage of an error and a hit batsman.

The Blue Storm trimmed its deficit to 4-1 on Dan Brown's single to center.

Defending champ Esky then made it 5-1 on LaMarch's single to left in the sixth.

Ishpeming, taking advantage of three walks, scored its second run on Josh Richard's sacrifice fly to left and pulled within 5-3 on Kirk Guckenberg's single to left.

Brown finished with two of Ishpeming's six hits. The Blue Storm faces Kingsford today at 1.

The Cubs collected seven hits off Jake Richards, who struck out one, walked two and hit a batter.

Olsen, the first of four Esky pitchers, took the win.
