NEGAUNEE, MI. - Janice L. Ruonavaara, 74, of 146 State Highway M-35, Negaunee Township, died at 4:35 PM on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Emergency Room of Marquette General Hospital after a several month illness.
Janice was born May 4, 1939 in Franklin Township in Houghton County to Einard and Senia (Mattson) Pelto and was a graduate of Houghton High School. She was a Negaunee resident since 1970, coming from Mohawk and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Ruonavaara was member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee. She was also a member of the Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club and the Marquette Rock and Mineral Club. She and her husband crafted jewelry and belt buckles.
Her hobbies included dancing with her husband, painting, gardening and they enjoyed winters in New Mexico.
She most loved being with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Surviving are three sons: Donald, Darrell and David Ruonavaara, all of Negaunee, two daughters: Peggy Ede of Sedalia, Missouri, Dawn (Lorin) Laukka of Negaunee, 10 grandchildren: Lauren, Samantha, Erica, Kevin, John, Jenny, Dustin, Amanda, Aaron, and Stephen, 11 great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Doris (Richard) Stone of St. Paul, MN, Nancy (Dale) Pontz of Harrisburg, OH, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald on Feb. 3, 2008, and a granddaughter Becky Blackburn on Feb. 13, 2010.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 26th at Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee with Rev. Peter Andersen officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am until the time of services at 11:00am at the church on Friday.
