Rookie’s Too/Quality Car Care hands Jasper Ridge 2 first loss of the season in Iron Range

NEGAUNEE - Rookies Too/Quality Car Care scored a 9-5 victory to hand Jasper Ridge 2 its first loss of the season in Class B of the Iron Range Women's Softball League last Wednesday.

The winners' Lori Marshall and Jen Stolberg each went 2 for 2 as Rookies/QCC moved within a half-game of division-leading Jasper Ridge, which got a homer from Kasey Liubakka.

In other B games, Signs Unlimited edged Pasquali's, 12-11, as Signs' Shelly Mallay went 2 for 3 and Pasquali's Kara Havel was 4 for 4 with a triple.

Tino's 2 moved within a game of first place with a 15-8 win over Jack's TeePee. Tino's Angie Vidlund and Jack's Lindsey Thompson homered, while Tino's Jeanne Argall was 3 for 4 and Jack's Tina Maki tripled.

U.P. Off Road & Performance also pulled within a game of the top spot with a 13-4 win over Dave's Collision. The winners' Jessica Collins, who homered, and Sam Zamesnik each went 4 for 4, while Dave's Jen Wallner and Dina Yohe both were 2 for 2 with a double.

Kim Koski, who hit two homers and two doubles, Shannon O'Donnell and Katie Richer all had four hits to lead Crossfit 906 past Hair Hiatus, 22-6. Teammate Sheri Hewitt had three hits, while Hair's Jamie VanBuren and Cristine Larson collected two hits apiece, including a double.

Sara Martin, April Ulrickson and Rebekah Ayotte powered three hits apiece to help Paradise Bar drop VFW, 19-8. Martin hit three homers, Ulrickson a homer and two triples, and Ayotte a homer and triple. VFW's Tracy Mitchell and Amy Young had two hits each.

In Class A, Jasper Ridge Brewery 1 edged Jubilee Foods, 18-16, as the winners' LeAnn Saarela homered and Jubilee's Sheri Wooden tripled.

Buck's Party Store remained perfect at 8-0 with a 19-4 drubbing of Sisters. Shannon Clemo, who homered, and Mary Scherer-Niemi each went 4 for 4 for the winners, while Anna Dompierre and Linda Dompierre both were 2 for 3 for Sisters.

Molly Wales lofted a rare homer over the fence to lead PC Medic to a 21-6 victory over Hickey's, keeping the winners one back in the loss column.

Iracore outscored Fox Negaunee, 22-14, as Stacie Kruse hit two doubles and Brianna Johnson and Holly Nardi a triple apiece for the winners.

Abbie Salisbury collected four hits, two of them triples, to lead Venice past Cliffs Natural Resources, 21-6. Teammate Kerry White and Cliffs' Randi Boule had three hits apiece.

Buck's Party Store shut down Jubilee Foods, 18-2, as the winners' Libby Nelson and Amber Buckmaster each went 3 for 3 while Jubilee's Steph Alongo and Karen Foster both tripled.

In Class C, Country Lanes retained a half-game lead with an 11-6 win over Martin Sports Apparel. Cassie Kudis was 4 for 4 and Jordan Wixtrom homered for Country, while Victoria Powelson was 4 for 4 and Kerrie Meyers 3 for 4 for Martin.

Negaunee Eagles stayed even in the loss column with a 4-3 nailbiter over Wooden Nickel.

Eastwood shut down TruNorth Credit Union, 6-1, as the winners' Ellen Sundberg had a grand slam and Cheryl Churack a triple as each had two hits. TruNorth's Becky Grove turned a double play.

Willey's Tire Shop eased past U.P. Fabricating, 12-11, as Willey's Becky Lee and Jamie Bryan and UPF's Brianna Salmela and Rachael Mager all had three hits. Bryan and Monica Cox, who finished with two hits, each cracked a double.

Mallory Pruett and Jen Flynn homered to lead Palomaki Family Chiropractic to a 21-10 win over Rookies 1, which got a roundtripper from Abby Walimaa.
