MARQUETTE - A man with extensive local playing and coaching experience has been added to staff of new Northern Michigan University men's basketball coach Bill Sall.

Bill Hill was named a Wildcats' assistant on Tuesday after serving as an assistant coach with the NMU women's team and head coach Troy Mattson last season.

"I'm extremely excited about adding Bill as my assistant," Sall said. "After going through the process and interviewing a number of candidates, I came to the conclusion that Bill was best suited with his passion for NMU as an alum(nus), former player and former assistant.

"I knew he was a perfect fit for our program as we get moving in the right direction."

Hill, previously an assistant with the Northern men under Dean Ellis in the 2009-10 season, has also been a boys head coach at Ishpeming High School and assistant boys coach at Marquette Senior High School.

Hill, 31, was also a standout player for the Wildcats and before that at Negaunee High School, helping lead the Miners to the MHSAA state Class C championship in 2000.

He earned All-Upper Peninsula high school honors twice, including as an All-Class "Dream Team" honoree his senior season.

At NMU, Hill holds the school record for career 3-pointers with 225 made during his playing days from 2000-04. He's also No. 5 on the Wildcats' all-time scoring list with 1,612 points after being named GLIAC Second Team in 2001-02 and 2003-04, along with GLIAC All-Tournament Team in 2000-01.
