MARQUETTE - A 10-year-old Marquette boy was recovering in fair condition today at Marquette General Hospital after he rode his bicycle out in front of a car Monday and was struck.

The Marquette City Police Department said the crash was reported at about 6:52 p.m. and occurred and Ridge and Fifth streets in Marquette.

Kelly Gilligan, 29, of Marquette was eastbound on Ridge Street when a boy on a bicycle rode out from a driveway in front of her vehicle. Police said she was unable to avoid a collision.

Police said Ian Parkkonen told them he had been riding east on the sidewalk and decided to turn around. He didn't see the car and rode out in front of it. Police said the bicyclist was at fault, failing to yield to Gilligan's vehicle.

Parkkonen was taken to the emergency room at the hospital.
