Rockhounding class offered

July 22, 2013
The Mining Journal

ISHPEMING - The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will offer a free beginning rockhounding class for ages 8 and older from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum in Ishpeming. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Participants will learn how and where to collect specimens in this area and to identify minerals by using hands-on experience with actual specimens.

Attendees will receive specimens to help jump start their own collections, and be able to view hundreds of specimens in the museum itself. Information will be provided on the club's Aug. 3 rock and mineral show and the field trips offered before and after the show.

Participants must register by calling 225-0408 before Friday.
