School reuse cited

July 21, 2013
Bill Domowicz, Gwinn , The Mining Journal

To the Journal editor:

With the decision made by the Gwinn school board for the closing of Gilbert Elementary School, I have a question for the Forsyth Township Board. What are the plans for the vacant building once closure of the school is complete? Is the building going to be razed or put to other use?

The township board attempted to pass an issue to raise funds for a new library. Why (not) reuse the old Gilbert school for this purpose? Modifications would more than likely have to be made to the building, but it would be much more cost effective that erecting a new building for this purpose.
