NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Jeffrey Wayne Cleghorn, 55, of State Highway M-35, Negaunee Township, died at his home early Tuesday morning, July 16, 2013.

Jeff was born November 29, 1957 in Chicago, IL. to Wayne and Carol (Mattson) Cleghorn, moved to Negaunee in 1974 and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1975.

Following graduation, he married Mary LaMere on October 25, 1975. Jeff was employed by Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company as a fabricator at the Empire Mine, retiring this past April, 2013, with 35 years of service with the company.

Jeff was passionate about building and flying remote controlled airplanes, and was a former president of the Northern Air Modelers. He was also a member of the Sands Model Aviation Club (SMAC).

He enjoyed spending time with his 2 German shepherds, Sam and Cally. Most of all, Jeff enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his wife and best friend who he did everything with.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 38 years, Mary (LaMere) Cleghorn; 2 daughters: Bobbi (Clifford) Hurkmans of Ishpeming and Jennifer (Glen) Bess of Ft. Lewis, WA; his son, Robert Cleghorn of Statesville, NC; 7 grandchildren: Nathan Cleghorn, Caleb and Christian Hurkmans, Brandon, Joshua and Rhiannon Bess, and Casy Yeadon; his brother, Michael Cleghorn of Negaunee; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Laurie Cleghorn in 2003; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Patricia and Robert LaMere.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 22nd at the Negaunee Township Hall with Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 am until the time of services at 11:00 am at the township hall on Monday, and also at a luncheon immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Michigan, www.reflexiondogs.com/GSD_Rescue.html.
