MARQUETTE - After staving off elimination for the third-straight day Tuesday, Negaunee made it four on Wednesday via an 11-1 victory over Baraga at Lions Field in Marquette to capture the Little League District 11 Minors softball title.
Negaunee, needing to beat previously unbeaten Baraga for the second-straight day, scored six runs in the second inning to break up a 1-1 tie. Three more runs in the third put Negaunee well in control and the 11th run in the fourth inning clinched the win.
Karlie Patron pitched a no-hitter for Negaunee, striking out 12 of the 13 batters she faced with just one walk over four innings.
Larissa Anderson and LuLu Mattila each collected two hits and scored two runs for Negaunee while teammate Katelyn Lammi also scored a pair of runs. Anderson and Shaylee Menhenick each had an RBI.
Baraga's Maija Rice led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk, worked her way to third base and scored on a wild pitch.
That would be it offensively for Baraga, which defensively committed five errors to Negaunee's zero.
Rice was also the losing pitcher for Baraga, giving up five hits with five strikeouts and three walks over four innings.
