KAILUA, Hawaii - William Francis Nicholas died May 22, 2013, at home in Kailua, Hawaii. Born in Detroit, Michigan on July 20, 1931.
Married to Ruth Elsie Hyry of Champion, Michigan on March 17, 1951. Survived by daughters Robbie Nicholas, Kristine Pfannenstiel, son Robert Nicholas. Grandsons: Zachary Nicholas and Timothy Pfannenstiel.
He attended Michigan State University where he received a Master of Social Work degree with an emphasis on community organization and service. He was involved in the early development of legislation for the National Department on Aging, Maternal Health and Welfare, the Head Start Program and second in charge of the War on Poverty in Los Angles.
He was employed by Marquette General Hospital, Regional Medical Center as Depart Head of Employee Assistance Programs, a program dear to his heart. William Nicholas and his wife Ruth Hyry Nicholas also owned and ran the Philomena on the Lake Resort in Michigamme, Mich., for 6 years.
He passed away peacefully at his Kailua home with his wife and daughters by his side.
