MARQUETTE, Mich. - Shanda Werkmeister, 35, of Waterloo, Iowa, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 6, 2013, in Waterloo.
A Celebration of Life memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1301 Kimball Ave., Waterloo. Visitation with the family and fellowship begins at 10:30 a.m.
Shanda Fawn Kangas was born Aug. 9, 1977, in Marquette, Mich. She attended Independence Schools most of her life, but graduated from Gwinn (Mich.) High School in 1995. She attended Hawkeye Community College in 2004, finishing with an associate degree in CNC machining. She married Brandon Werkmeister on Aug. 29, 2010, in Clarksville.

She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Adaya Ruroden, and her mother Mary Kangas, all of Waterloo; her father, Ron Kangas of Gwinn, Mich., a sister, Emily Tessmer of Truckee, Calif.
Shanda showed her heart in music. She had a beautiful singing voice, which she shared with her daughter Adaya. She was also passionate about fishing.
Shanda took pride in her trade as a highly-skilled CNC machinist. She had a particular zest for life that was known by many that were close to her.

Shanda is now safely in the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, who she came to know in recent years.
