Meyer Family Vision sweeps WIN doubleheader

ISHPEMING - Meyer Family Vision swept a doubleheader from Cliffs Natural Resources, 7-3 and 11-4, in the Junior Division of the WIN Girls Slowpitch Softball League.

Livvie Wood struck the big blow for Meyer in the opener, going 3 for 3, while teammate Alexis Gregorich picked up her first hit. Cliffs' Chantel Woodbridge and Katie Popko each had hits.

In Game 2, Lexi Taavola, who had two doubles, Alana Nuorola, Maija Homola and Abbi Tolefson all went 2-2. For Cliffs, Popko and Kaitlin Ackland each had a homer during a 2-for-2 night.

Globe Printing outscored Cliffs, 17-12, as Anna Chipman was 3 for 3 and scored three runs, while Haley Mattila, Hannah Mattila and Holly Luokkala each homered during 2-for-2 nights. Ackland homered, drew two walks and scored three times, while Popko cracked a grand slam homer.

Peninsula Bank bounced Jubilee Foods, 26-1. For Pen Bank, Ellie Mashburn and Lindsey Giraud were both 2 for 2, while Giraud knocked in four runs and Mashburn scored once. Teammate Marissa Neveau scored twice. For Jubilee, Kassy Sharon was 2 for 2 and scored her team's run.

Pen Bank outdueled Globe Printing, 11-1, in a battle of the division's top two teams. Alena Palomaki, Sarah Olivier and Madison Pruett, who tripled, all had two hits, while Pruett pitched to a win with six strikeouts and no walks. Globe's Anna Chipman had a triple and scored.

Senior Division

The Tri-Township Lions topped VFW, 19-5, as the winners' Chyanne Wedgworth tripled and Brooke Ranta was 4 for 4. VFW's Amber Rautio tripled.

The Lions also blanked Mullins Service, 14-0, as Wedgworth and Bree Ranta tripled and Mullins' Jordan Korpi was 2 for 2.

Globe Printing held off Elks, 13-8, as Globe's Haley Mattila was 3 for 3 with 2 homers and 5 RBIs. Teammate Anna Chipman went 3 for 3 with a homer and three runs while Aubrie Magnuson homered twice. The Elks' Emily Quayle and Myah McNab both went 3 for 3 as Quayle doubled and tripled and McNab scored twice.

Globe also held off Martin's Sports Apparel, 21-2. Mattila, who homered, Chipman, Sierra Ellet and Morgan Coolidge all were a perfect 3 for 3, while teammates Hope Kaukola and Jayce Reath each hit two doubles. Martin's Rylee Harris was 2 for 2 with a run, while Missy Bauer, Haley Krook, and Ella DeMarois each got a hit.
