MARQUETTE - Two women have been rescued after being held captive for more than four hours inside the basement of an Ishpeming business.

The Ishpeming City Police Department reports that two Ishpeming men, 43-year-old Jason David Sadowski and 65-year-old Charles Leroy Cope were arraigned Wednesday afternoon on several charges related to the incident.

Police said the women were held against their will for more than four hours before one of the women was able to get to a cell phone to call 911 for help.

Police responded to the call at 6:35 a.m. Tuesday at The Martial Way - a mixed martial arts studio located at 112 Cleveland Ave. in Ishpeming - where they found two women who had been physically assaulted and bound with duct tape to structural support posts in the basement of the building.

Sadowski, who police said was the owner of the business, has been charged with the following: one count of solicitation of murder, two counts of torture, one count of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, two counts of unlawful imprisonment and two counts of assault by strangulation.

Cope is charged with two counts of torture and two counts of unlawful imprisonment.

Bond was denied for Sadowski, and was set at $500,000 per count for Cope.

Both men remained lodged in Marquette County Jail.
