MARQUETTE - Three weightlifters affiliated with the U.S. Olympic Education Center fared well at competitions held last week.

Allie Henry earned a silver medal on Thursday at the Pan American Championships in Venezuela.

Henry lifted 98 kilograms (216.1 pounds) in the snatch, earning her a medal in that category. Her 109 kg (240.3 lb.) lift in the clean and jerk was good for fourth place in the 69 kg (152.1 lb.) weight class.

"Allie worked hard to qualify and prepare for this event," USOEC weightlifting coach Vance Newgard said. "To earn a medal and come so close to a top-three overall finish in international competition was nice to see."

In another meet, club team members Jarynn and Dinele Stewart of Marquette competed last weekend at the USA Weightlifting Youth Championships.

In their second competition away from the USOEC, both sisters lifted personal records and finished in the top 10.

Lifting in the 14-15-year-old division, Jarynn Stewart was sixth with a 93 kg (205.0 lb.) overall total, beating her old personal best by 10 kg (22.0 lbs.).

In the 16-17 division, Dinele Stewart finished seventh with a 90 kg (198.4 lb.) total, besting her overall personal record by 8 kg (17.6 lbs.).
