Ishpeming looks for assessing aid

July 1, 2013
The Mining Journal

MARQUETTE- The Marquette County Board of Commissioners is set to discuss the City of Ishpeming's request for assessing services at its meeting Tuesday.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. in room 231 of the Henry A. Skewis Annex in Marquette.

The Ishpeming City Council voted unanimously at a special meeting June 19 to not fill the position left vacant by the retirement of Ishpeming's city assessor and to instead request that Marquette County staff provide assessing services for the city.

The council approved a three-year renewable contract with an annual payment of $50,000 to Marquette County. According to the county commission, in order for the county to be able to provide assessing services to Ishpeming, an additional appraiser will be hired.

The $50,000 fee, combined with revenue generated from other external contracts, will cover the costs of hiring a full-time appraiser.
