MARQUETTE - Each Fourth of July, Bay Cliff Health Camp sponsors an Independence Day Parade in Big Bay.

Approximately 140 campers and 130 staff will dress up in costumes and participate in the annual Bay Cliff Fourth of July Parade, an event that draws spectators from the entire Upper Peninsula.

The Fourth of July is a very special day, both for campers and staff at Bay Cliff, as well as for the residents of Big Bay.

This year, each cabin’s costumes will depict an aspect of the parade’s general theme, “Bay Cliff Celebrates 80 Years of Health.” (Journal file photo)

The children who attend Bay Cliff receive therapy for physical, occupational, speech, hearing, and vision impairments, and range in age from 3 to 17 years. From the time they arrived at camp June 15, preparations for the parade began. Each cabin's costumes depict one particular aspect of the parade's general theme, "Bay Cliff Celebrates 80 Years of Health."

This year, expect to see Bay Cliffs efforts to promote healthy living and wellness for the children through therapy, education and all the special activities of the summer. The public is welcome to join Bay Cliff and experience its 80-year anniversary.

The campers and counselors make their own costumes and every camper and staff member participates in the parade. For many of the children at Bay Cliff, this will be a first opportunity to participate in a parade. Other Fourth of July activities at Bay Cliff will include relay races, games, prizes and a picnic.

The parade, which begins at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, will start at the Bay Cliff Health Camp entrance gate. The parade will proceed along the main streets of Big Bay. Special groups from the Big Bay area will join in and follow the campers in the parade.

Bay Cliff invites everyone to come out to see the big parade on the Fourth of July, a wonderful opportunity to see an important camp activity in action and cheer for the children.
