Dolores (Riberdy) Sundell

NAPERVILLE, IL. - Dolores Theresa (Riberdy) Sundell, 80, of Naperville, IL, and former Negaunee and Ishpeming resident, died April 28, 2013 in Naperville following a battle with Alzheimer's disease.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to many, Dolores "Lor" was born May 5, 1932 in Ishpeming to Joseph and Melvina (Nault) Riberdy and graduated from Ishpeming High School. She married Donald A. Sundell on July 5, 1952 in San Bernandino, CA. They were later transferred to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio before moving to London, England. Following Donald's service in the Air Force, they returned to Negaunee where they resided until Donald's death on August 18, 2008.

Dolores then moved to Naperville to live with her daughter, Mary (Sundell) Watts and Larry Thompson, where she was able to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was especially cared for by a devoted Maltese dog, Betsy.

Mrs. Sundell was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Negaunee. In her younger years she worked for the Michigan Bell Telephone Company. She loved spending time with her family, enjoyed doing art work and crafts, and liked dining out and traveling.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary (Larry Thompson) Watts of Naperville, IL; son, Michael J. (Suzanne) Sundell of Marquette; 4 grandchildren: Alan Watts, Heather (Robert) Glynn, Jennifer Tetreau, Cynthia (Christopher) Wright; great grandchildren: Keegan, Kasey and Kameron Glynn, and Vada Marilyn Wright; sister-in-law, Edith Sundell of Green Bay; aunt, Helen Ketola and family, several nieces and nephews.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Joseph, Paul and Donald Riberdy; sisters: "Patsy" Kinkella and Julie Ann "Dolly" Sihtala; brothers-in-law: Arnold and William Sundell; sister-in-law, Shirley and Charles Prusi.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5th at St. John's Episcopal Church in Negaunee with the interment of both Dolores and Donald immediately following at the Negaunee Cemetery to commemorate their wedding anniversary of July 5th. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. at the church on Friday, and also at a luncheon in the church hall following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association in Dolores' memory.
