MARQUETTE, MI. - Kate C. Duffey, age 82, of 300 Whetstone, Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday morning, May 14, 2013 at her home in the loving and comforting care of friends.

Kate was born in Otaru, Japan, on March 28, 1931, the daughter of Uichi and Kikuko (Naya) Kusakabe. Her mother died when she was 13 and Kate was raised by her grandmother. She graduated from high school in Japan and then went to work at the Wakkanai Air Force Station as a shipping clerk where she was responsible for shipping personal property to duty assignments. She came to the United States in July of 1972, settling first in Texas. In 1979, she moved to Marquette where she received an associate degree in nutrition from Northern Michigan University. She was employed by the Commission on Aging in home health care for ten years. Kate then worked as a housekeeper at the Woodview Court Apartments until her retirement in 2003. She enjoyed hiking, cooking, and acrylic painting. Kate attended the Marquette Salvation Army.

Kate is survived by two brothers, Yoichi and Shozo both of Japan; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Kazue Key of Gwinn. In addition to her parents, Kate was preceded in death by a sister, Estuko; and a brother, Hiroaki.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, July 3, at 10:00 am at the Salvation Army located at 1009 W. Baraga Avenue, Marquette. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army in Marquette.
