MARQUETTE- Bell Hospital will be outfitting an additional operating room with the approval of a Certificate of Need this month.
Bell applied late last year for a certificate through the Michigan Department of Community Health allowing it to outfit and operate a fourth operating room in its Surgical Center. The construction on the new operating room, which started in late March, is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
"Our surgical volumes have been increasing, due in large part to the talented and caring providers and staff serving our surgical patients," said Barbara Larson, chief operating officer at Bell. "The approval from the state paves the way to offer more convenient scheduling and enhanced access to those services."
The number of surgeries is increasing at Bell, so having a fourth operating room will enable more surgeries being done earlier in the day, which is easier on patients, said Ruth Solinski, vice president of organizational development at Bell.
According to Solinski, the fourth operating room will be available for use by July 1. The cost of the equipment has been supported by the Bell Auxiliary along with funds raised by the Bell Foundation, according to a press release. Bell Hospital offers a variety of inpatient and outpatient services that include general, orthopedic, gynecological, ophthalmologic, urologic, plastic and oral surgery.
