MARQUETTE - The Wisconsin-Michigan Destroyers 2000 spring AAA hockey team, which included two skaters from the area, played in three tournaments and compiled an 8-7 record.

The team includes Sammy Randall, who is a resident of Marquette and Traverse City, and Warner Young, who hails from Newberry.

The WMD's 20-players roster includes three other Upper Peninsula residents, eight from Lower Michigan and the balance from Sault Ste. Marie, Canada; Wisconsin; Minnesota; and Alaska.

The team played against elite national and international competition, according to team organizers, at the Elite Prospects tournament in downstate Troy, the Stars & Stripes Elite Invitational in Edina, Minn., and the International Cup Invitational in Blaine, Minn.

"These players are a fantastic group of young men," coach Scott Kellett said. "I cannot say enough about their character and how fun it was to coach all of them."

Team operations were handled by Geoff Randall and Mark Swenson.
