TRAVERSE CITY - They won their first regional tournament game Saturday, but the Negaunee High School baseball Miners came up short in their second

NHS beat Charlevoix, 2-1, at Traverse City St. Francis in MHSAA Division 3 Region 17 semifinal play. But the Miners then dropped the title game, 7-2, to Whittemore-Prescott to end their season at 14-8.

Tyler Jandron smacked a triple to score Tyler LaJoie - who had singled - in the opening frame against Charlevoix.

Jandron then scored Negaunee's final run of the game.

The Rayders got their run in the first when Nate Moon scored, but were stymied the rest of the way by pitcher Jandron.

He wound up allowing but three hits and two walks while striking out 11.

Jandron recorded two of the Miners' seven hits. Dusty Goupille added a single and an RBI.

Against Whittemore-Prescott, NHS fell prey to five third inning errors while Goupille was pitching that led to five W-P unearned runs.

"That pretty much cost us the game," NHS assistant coach James Larsen III said.

Goupille, Jandron and Tony Zampese shared the mound duties for the Miners.

Luke Hill hit an RBI-single for NHS and teammate Eric Lori also knocked in a run.

Larsen said NHS manager Mark Hill was presented a District Coach of the Year Award by the regional tournament manager.
