Doris A. Valeski Pearson

GWINN, MI. - Doris A. Valeski Pearson, 94, a lifelong resident of Gwinn, died Thursday morning, June 6, 2013 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming with her loving family at her side.

Doris was born on April 10, 1919 in Gwinn, one of 10 children born to Samuel and Anna (LeMieux) Roberts. With the death of her father when she was 12, Doris helped raise her 9 siblings and cared for her family in many ways.

She was formerly employed at the Gossard Plant in Gwinn and spent many years at the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base as a civil servant retiring in 1984. After her retirement, she and her late husband, Ted, spent their winters in Arizona with Doris driving the car herself most of the way there and back.

In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and crafts. She loved music, dancing and traveling. Many memories were made over the years at their Pike Lake cottage. Doris was a faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a charter member of the Gwinn VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by 4 loving children, Ted (Carol) Valeski of Quinnesec, MI, Bob (Helen) Valeski of Broken Arrow, OK, Lois (Rudy) Garcia of Byron, MI and Bonita Olsen of Gwinn; 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 8 great, great grandchildren and 1 expected great, great grandchild; also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death besides her parents was her first husband, Ted Valeski and second husband, Rex Pearson; one grandson, Mark Ellard; also eight brothers and one sister.

Friends may call at the Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. where members of the Gwinn VFW Auxiliary will conduct a service at 6 p.m. and a parish prayer service will be recited at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 11th at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn with the Rev. John Boyle officiating. Burial will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery.

Doris' grandsons will act as her escorts.
