HAMILTON, MT. - David Scott Guilland 81 of Hamilton, MT died peacefully at Marcus Daly Hospice on Friday, May 31, 2013.
He began his life in Marquette, Michigan on April 4, 1932. Dave married Marjorie Uhlinger on October 2, 1954 in Marquette and they enjoyed 58 years together.
He was preceded in death by his son, Tom, and his brother, Alexander.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie; daughter, Leslie and husband Scott and her two children, Taylor and Tesa; son, Scott, and his son Brandon; Tom's children, Cara and Amanda; two daughters- in- law, Dorinda and Linda, and two sisters, Janet and Sybil.
After one year of college, Dave enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served as an airplane mechanic until he was accepted into the Navy flight program. The culmination of his flight training was twelve successful landings on the aircraft carrier USS Monterey. Dave received his wings and chose to take his commission in the U.S. Marine Corps, after which he served a 14-month tour of duty in Korea. His love of flying continued throughout his life.
After Dave finished his military service he completed his education at Northern Michigan University. He became an FBI agent in 1962. His 21 years of service were spent in Washington, D.C., St. Louis, New York and Las Vegas. While in Las Vegas he developed the FBI SWAT team, became principal firearms instructor, and taught firearms classes to other law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Nevada..
Dave Guilland led a full life, often saying that if he died tomorrow he would have no regrets. He was a man of high moral standards and self-discipline. Dave was a fine athlete, and had many talents and skills, all of which he loved to share with his family and friends. He helped to build their log home and loved his 22 years of retirement in Montana.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on August 3, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, Montana. Condolences may be left for the family at dalyleachchapel.com.
