ISHPEMING Mich. - Edward J. Hansen, age 82, entered eternal life on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming.

Edward was born October 28, 1930, in Sidnaw, Michigan, to Carl and Sadie (LaFever) Hansen. Growing up, he lived in various locations around the Upper Peninsula before graduating from Negaunee High School in 1948. Shortly after graduation, Edward married Armine Yelle and together the couple helped raise children through what was an early child foster care program in the State of Michigan. In the late 1950s, they adopted their first child, with three more of their own children being added to the family throughout the years, all of them raised in Sands Township. Edward had an extensive working career at Lakeshore Inc., working mainly as a sandblaster in addition to holding other various positions with the company. He worked for Lakeshore until company closure in the 1990s. Over the years, he also served as a member of the Sands Township Volunteer Fire Department and as an EMT for the ambulance service.

In October of 1987, Edward's wife, Armine, preceded him in death. He remarried a few years later to Ruth Parkkinen. Edward and Ruth established a new home in Ishpeming and Edward worked for Simmons True Value for about 10 years, where he especially enjoyed working on and fixing up snow blowers. He became an active member of the Good News Assembly of God, participating in the church choir. Edward and Ruth eventually moved to Lost Creek in Marquette, where Edward was always lending a helping hand, even shoveling roofs during the winter months. Ruth passed away in 1999, and Edward moved to Laurium, Michigan were he formed a companionship with Esther Tauriainen. Edward lived an active life and was a busy man, so much so that his children needed to schedule appointments with him so they knew he would be home when they came to visit. His spare time was spent helping at the races at the Sands Speedway. He enjoyed a peanut butter sandwich and coffee in the mornings while reading a good western book, and he loved music, even learning to play several instruments throughout his life.
