Flossie C. Kachmarsky

MARQUETTE, MI. - Flossie Celeste Parolari Kachmarsky, 92, of Marquette, passed away Sunday evening, June 2, 2013 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee, Michigan with her loving family at her side.

Flossie was born on September 25, 1920 in Iron River, Michigan, the youngest daughter of Modesto and Anna (Remondini) Parolari. She resided in that area until 1999 when she moved to Marquette to be near her husband, Andrew P. Kachmarsky, Sr. a resident at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

Flossie along with her four sisters worked at her father's grocery store, The Sweet Corner, in Iron River. Beginning at the age of 13, she drove the Dodge delivery truck for both deliveries and passing out her store ads.

She was very proud of her awards for ice skating competitions as well as being selected the head majorette for the Iron River Marching Band. While she was growing up, Flossie regularly went bird hunting with her father as well as helping him raise and train his bird hunting dogs.

Flossie and her Army husband-to-be, Andrew, Sr., who met initially at Midnight Mass on December 24, 1941, wrote to each other weekly during the entire four years of World War II. After the war he came back and immediately proposed to her. They were married on March 3, 1946 at St. Vladimir's Catholic Church in Edwardsville, Pennsylvania. They were married for 58 years.

She was baptized and raised through St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River. She was active in Altar Society where she worked on the May Day Celebrations and the October Festivals. She moved to Marquette in 1999. She attended St. Christopher Catholic Church.

While her husband was a resident at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans, Flossie daily visited with him, participating in bingo and other activities with him.

Survivors include 4 loving children Dennis (Terry) Kachmarsky of Grass Valley, CA, Dr. Mary Janet (Robert) Knapp of Northville, MI, Andrew P. (LeAnne) Kachmarsky, Jr. of Marquette, and Ann Marie (Lee) Stimpson of Dallas, TX; 10 grandchildren, Erik (Erica) Kachmarsky, Tania (Bob) McDaniel, Heather Knapp, Leslie Knapp, Ariane (Rob) Stassek, Andrew Kachmarsky III, Kaitlyn Jo Kachmarsky, Paige Nicole Kachmarsky, Gregory Stimpson, Christopher Nickolas Stimpson; 4 great grandchildren, Avery, Grace, Claire, and Jack Edmund; also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her parents was her husband, Andrew P. Kachmarsky, Sr. and sisters, Esther Pigeon, Mary Taetsch, Clara Leader, and Edith Dallavalle.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 4th at 3 p.m. at St. Christopher Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery on Wednesday, June 5th at 10:00 a.m.

Pallbearers will be members of Msgr. Nolan B. McKevitt Council #689, Knights of Columbus.
