Local veterans treated to Detroit Tigers game

June 2, 2013
The Mining Journal

Fifteen Upper Peninsula combat Veterans who have service-connected disability from their tours in Iraq or Afghanistan were treated to a Detroit Tiger's game recently. Included were: kneeling from left, Joseph Tormala, Daniel Turunen, Kevin Reiswitz and Scott Blackberg; and standing, from left, Alan DeMenter, Matthew Turunen, Brandon June, John Gibson, James Lamson, Michael Johnson, Gerald Harry, Michael Kukanich, Samuel Parr, Colt St. Arnold and Frank Lombard. The visit was made possible by Detroit Tiger's star pitcher Justin Verlander's charity, Victory for Veterans, which was created three years ago to honor Michigan area soldiers wounded while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. The veterans viewed the game from Verlander's suite at Comerica Park free of charge.
