REDFORD/REPUBLIC, Mich. - Elden B. Hendrickson Sr., age 92, of 13131 Sioux St., Redford, Mich., and former Republic resident, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.
Elden was born May 9, 1921, in Republic to Jalmer and Fannie (Junsola) Hendrickson. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Elden was employed by the City of Detroit for 42 years as a bus driver and later worked for the Livonia Schools as a bus driver for 16 years.
Elden is survived by his wife, Delores (Gaushas) Hendrickson, whom he married on December 10, 1954; 3 children: Elden Hendrickson Jr. of Livonia, Mich., Tina Hendrickson of Redford, Mich., and Wendy (Gordon) Swirles of Livonia, Mich.; 2 grandchildren: Angela and Heather Swirles; 2 sisters: Elaine Heliste and Jean Olson, both of Republic; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Elden was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Reino, Werner, John and Edwin Hendrickson; and sisters Sonia Koob, Thelma Mattila and Vienna Loebbaka.
Elden's family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday June 1, 2013, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Kevin Kaiser officiating.
Interment will take place in the Republic Township Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380. A luncheon will follow the burial at the Bethany Lutheran Church in South Republic.
Pallbearers will be Elden Hendrickson Jr., Wayne Heliste, Keith Heliste, Darrell Olson, Gordon Swirles and Gordon Hendrickson.
