Sharon S. Fountain

GWINN, Mich. - Sharon S. Fountain, 76, of 17 N. Billings St., Gwinn, died peacefully at 1:30 PM on Friday, May 24, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice.

Sharon was born November 18, 1936, in Ishpeming to Anselm and Mary Catherine (Maki) Heikkinen, and was a graduate of Ishpeming High School, Class of 1954. Following her graduation she worked at the H.W. Gossard Co. in Ishpeming and later at the Gwinn Post Office. She was a Gwinn resident for 59 years. Sharon was an excellent seamstress and passionate knitter. She loved the woods and enjoyed partridge hunting and fishing.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, William F. Fountain; a son, William A. (Shirley) Fountain of Gwinn; a daughter, Debra A. Fountain of Gwinn; a grandson, Ryan W. (Dakota Evans) Fountain of Gwinn; and great-grandson, William F. Fountain. Also surviving are three sisters: Kathleen M. (David) Ackland of Ishpeming, Christine (P.C.) Gupta of Marquette, and Julie B. (Donn) Wolf of Marquette; two brothers: Walter J. (Avis) Lampi of Ishpeming, James (Beverly) Heikkinen of Calumet; several nieces and nephews; and a lifelong close friend, Ann Haseltine of Marquette. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Anna A. Heikkiknen; and brothers Ronald E. Heikkinen, Gerald A. Heikkinen and Mark D. Heikkinen.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, May 28 at the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church in Negaunee with the Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating. Interment will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 PM until the time of services at 3:00 PM at the church on Tuesday.
