MARQUETTE - Shortstop Ryan Hanson went 4 for 4, knocked in six runs and stole three bases to lead the Marquette Blues to a 15-4 mercy-rule shortened victory over Gladstone in American Legion baseball on Thursday evening.

Playing at the Gerard Haley Memorial Field in north Marquette, Hanson had a triple and three singles, two of those hits and three of the RBIs coming in the Blues' decisive eight-run fourth inning.

He provided plenty of support for winning pitcher Colin O'Neal, who worked the first two innings and allowed two unearned runs. He didn't give up a hit while wallking two and striking out three. Trevor Bratonia worked the next two innings and Luke Swajanen the fifth and final frame.

Together, they allowed Gladstone just four hits and three walks, though the Blues committed four errors.

Marquette needed just nine hits to get its runs, taking advantage of seven walks and six Gladstone errors. Cody Frazier absorbed the pitching loss, going three innings and giving up 13 runs on eight hits and five walks. He struck out two.

Though Hanson's teammates only came up with five hits, two were for extra bases as Ryan Walther and Riley Lynch each doubled.

Gladstone scored once in the top of the first, but the Blues took the lead for good with five runs in the bottom of the inning, keyed by Hanson's two-run single as the first six Blues reached base.
