NEGAUNEE - A day after capturing its third straight Mid-Peninsula Conference championship, the Negaunee High School boys tennis team turned back visiting Marquette on Friday, 5-3.

"We placed an emphasis ... not to be too satisfied with the conference title because we knew this meet was important," NHS head coach Kyle Saari said.

"We responded, especially at Nos. 3 and 4 doubles."

There, Alex Roth and Ben Luke at No. 3, and Parker Bowman and Jacob Paupore at No. 4, posted wins for the Miners.

NHS (9-2-1) took three of four singles matches. Cody Tossava led the way at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Josh Downs.

At No. 1 doubles, Marquette's Kyle King and Alex Shahbazi beat Doug Lindblom and Nick Martin, 6-1, 6-2.
