Dennis A. ‘Denny’ Magadanz

HARVEY, MI. - Dennis A. "Denny" Magadanz, age 71, of 158 W. Main Street, Harvey, entered eternal life Tuesday morning, May 21, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital in the loving, comforting care of his family.

Born September 3, 1941 in Greendale, Wisconsin, a son of Erwin "Mike" and Genevieve (Schaenhaer) Magadanz, Denny was raised in Marquette and was a 1959 graduate of the Graveraet High School. He attended Northern Michigan University for a year before serving in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Marquette where he opened and operated Denny's Standard Service on North Third Street. He later operated another service station prior to one of his many retirements. Denny then served as supervisor for the Chocolay Township Department of Public Works, finally giving in to retirement in 2010. Denny was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed all that nature had to offer. He was a true "hunterman", fisherman, gardener, golfer, and was always interested in sports, having played baseball for many years. Denny was a member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church and was frequently on the greens of the Chocolay Downs Golf Course.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Helen "Casey" (Pachmayer) Magadanz, whom he married March 3, 1978; daughters, Tara (Mac) Rabitaille and Keri Magadanz; son, Dan (Jennifer) Magadanz; grandchildren, Drake, Ryan, Jordyn, Jacey, Shaylyn, and Paytyn Deni; his sisters, Marie Voeklker, Monica (Dennis) Nareski, and Mona Magadanz; brothers, Dave (Jeanette) Magadanz and Dean (Cheryl) Magadanz; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and infant sister, Dawn Marie Magadanz, Denny was preceded in death by a son, Todd Magadanz in 2001; brother-in-law, Juergen Voelker; and a nephew, Joseph Montero.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Louis the King Catholic Church, Harvey, on Tuesday, May 28, beginning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Ben Paris, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in Father Gauthier Hall. Inurnment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
