MARQUETTE - The city of Marquette will wait to place lifeguards on its beaches - officially opening the summer beach season - until after Memorial Day weekend this year.
Rather than opening them Monday, which is typical, the city will wait until Wednesday to begin staffing its beaches with lifeguards. The beaches will then be staffed with lifeguards from noon to 8 p.m. daily.
Any beach closures or interruptions in lifeguard service will be posted on the city's website at www.mqtcty.org.
The city beach season routinely runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
