Carl ‘Rudy’ Johnson

RICHFIELD, Minn. - Carl "Rudy" Johnson, 87, of Richfield, Minn., passed away peacefully at home Friday, May 10, 2013, in the care of hospice with his family by his side following several months of pulmonary lung disease.

Mr. Johnson was born October 18, 1925, in Ishpeming, Mich., to the late Carl and Eleanor (Bengtson) Johnson. He grew up in Marquette and was educated in the Marquette public school system and graduated from Graveraet High School, class of 1943. He liked to attend class reunions.

He was a Veteran of WWII, serving both in Germany and Japan.

He married the former Marilyn Arsenault of Ishpeming on June 6, 1953. He retired after 35 years with the Postal Service and was a member of the American Legion Post 435 in Richfield.

He loved to golf and bowl. He came back to Marquette with his family every summer to spend time with his sister and her husband at their camp in Big Bay, Mich.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marilyn; sons, Randy and Bradley (Patty) Johnson; grandchildren, Lynnette, Nicholas, Matthew (Alison) Johnson; a sister, Barbara Bergstrom of Marquette; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Richfield, Minn., which the Rev. Linda Lund officiated.

Pallbearers were Nick Johnson, Matt Johnson, John Burke and Jesse Gardner.

Private interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
