MARQUETTE - Underclassmen provided the offense Marquette needed in one of its games on Senior Day, then everybody got in the act for the other contest.
That allowed the Redettes to sweep Superior Central in a high school softball doubleheader played at Hurley Field in Marquette on Monday.
MSHS posted 3-1 and 13-2 victories to improve to 16-9.
Sophomore Courtney Finkbeiner and junior Amber Beaudry each went 2 for 2 in the opener, collecting four of their team's six hits as Marquette broke a 1-1 tie with two hits in the sixth inning of the opener. One of Finkbeiner's hits was a triple, while Beaudry knocked in a run with one of hers.
"We only got two hits out of our six seniors in the first game," Marquette coach Paul Seibert said. "It seemed like they were pressing a bit, popping the ball up, but Courtney and Amber came through."
He also cited his daughter, senior Morgan Seibert, who struck out seven batters in the first three innings but "only" finished with 12 strikeouts after suffering a bout of wildness in the middle innings.

Lindsey Richmond, who had one of her team's three hits off Morgan Seibert, was tagged with the pitching loss as she struck out four.
In the nightcap, Marquette scored at least two runs in each of its four times up to make an easy winner out of junior hurler Senja Liimatta.
"For whatever reason, the girls seemed to relax after we had the Senior Day ceremony (between games)," Paul Seibert said. "We had very few cheap hits in Game 2, even though (losing pitcher) Brooke Pasanen pitched just as well as Richmond."
Seibert went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Finkbeiner, Liimatta and seniors Karlee Huuki and Whitney LaFave all had two hits.
Richmond doubled and Pasanen singled and had an RBI as the only hits for SC off Liimatta, who struck out six.
At Houghton, a scheduled doubleheader was curtailed to one game due to cold, wind and rain.
But the Hematites evened their record at 7-7 as senior Caitlin Korvela twirled a two-hit complete-game shutout. She mowed down 11 Gremlins hitters while walking three.
Korvela also had two of her team's seven hits off losing pitcher Laura Ruohonen, who went the distance and K'd seven and walked five. Freshman teammate Libbie Doney walked twice and had a double and knocked in a run in her only official at-bat.
The RBI broke a scoreless tie in the third as Ishpeming added a single run in the fourth and two more in the fifth, even though the Hematites had a couple runners thrown out at the plate, according to coach Jeremy Thompson.
"Our defense and our pitching was the most consistent it's been this season," he said about the first-year program.
The game ended on a play that started with a hit, included an error, but ended when a Houghton runner who broke for the plate retreated for third base, then was thrown out on a throw from IHS catcher Lindsey Thompson to Korvela, who was covering the bag.
