Joan Marie Diegel Livingston, 73, formerly of Marquette, died April 6, 2013 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility, where she had resided for 22 months, after suffering from multiple sclerosis for many years.
Joan was born December 21, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to Leon and Margaret Diegel. She graduated from NMU in 1982 with a major in music.
She was employed at Marquette General Hospital from 1981-2002 as a secretary in the Medical Library, the Cancer Program, and the Volunteer Services Department, moving to the Pastoral Care Department in 1990.
Joan is survived by her children: Jeffrey Livingston, Waterford, MI; Jennifer Livingston (Anthony McMichael), Pinckney, MI; Jon Livingston (Melissa Hill), Marquette, MI; and Joel Livingston, San Diego, CA; her grandchildren Melinda Trussell, Ohatchee, AL; Jesse Woolpert, Brighton, MI; Dustin Livingston and Drew Livingston, Marquette, MI; her brother, John (Pamela) Diegel, Lake Orion, MI; her sister, Lois Gordon, St. Clair Shores, MI; a niece and nephew, Catherine Gordon and Eric Gordon; and her former husband: James Livingston (Gwendolyn Hetler), Skandia, MI.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated for Joan on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 2 pm at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Skandia, by the Revs. Leon Jarvis, Gwendolyn Hetler, and James Livingston. A time for conversation and refreshments will follow in the church hall.
