YPSILANTI/ISHPEMING, MI - Raymond P. DeCaire, age 94 former Ishpeming resident passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the American House - Carpenter Senior Living in Ypsilanti while under the loving care of family and Compassionate Care Hospice.
Raymond was born June 9, 1918 in Ishpeming to Jeremiah "Jerry" & Emma (Hart) DeCaire. Ray served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II. He worked for the Ishpeming Police Department, as a salesman for Leo Tousignant selling candy and cigarettes and later for Cleveland Cliff Mining Company at the Brownstone Shop and Cliffs Cottage.
Ray was a member of the V.F.W. Post #4573, American Legion, the Knight of Columbus 3rd Degree Council 1541, 4th Degree Snowshoe Priest Council Assembly 469, and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming. Ray enjoyed wintering in Florida in his later years.
Ray is survived by a sister Eileen Trombley of Pinckney, MI, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his wife Carmella (Belpedio) DeCaire in 1996, brothers Earl, Melvin and Kenneth DeCaire and a sister Donna Ryan.
A Memorial Mass will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, May 18, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Fr. Greg Heikkala to officiate. Inurnment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Ray's family will greet relatives and friends at St. Johns Catholic Church on Saturday May 18th from 11:00am until the time of service at 12:00 noon
