SKANDIA, Mich. - David Morrell Sullivan, age 67, of Skandia, entered eternal life Sunday, May 5, 2013, at his home.
David was born October 17, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Morrell and Dorothy (Zwigart) Sullivan. He was raised on the family farm near Lake Linden, helping out on the farm as he was able, even teaching his younger siblings how to do various jobs to help take the load off him. He graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1963. It was shortly after graduation when David enlisted in the Navy Reserves; after 8 years he transferred to the Army National Guard, retiring from the Guard in 1986. After two years of Active service he entered Radio and Communications School, graduating in 1969, He ended up with a job as a disc jockey in Marquette.
He loved music and had an extensive collection of vinyl records, having enough 45s to fill an entire room. After several years in the Radio Communication field he took up employment with Northern Michigan University. With 33 years of service, he retired in July, 2010. In the early 1970s, David married Celestine "Letty" Bigger, and together the couple established a home and began raising their family in Skandia and Harvey. David and Letty remained happily married for 38 years, until Letty's death in 2010.

In his spare time, David enjoyed the outdoors and all it had to offer, including camping, especially in rustic campsites that didn't contain any of the modern amenities. He also enjoyed tinkering with various electronics, working and playing on computers. David was an avid lover of sports, especially the Detroit Lions, Red Wings and Pistons. He loved his grandchildren and all of the time he was able to spend with them.
He is survived by his children, Cynthia (Russ) Stolfus, Ron Gauthier, Tim (Gigi) Gauthier, and Amy Wilson; his mother, Dorothy Sullivan; siblings, Sharon (Marty) Holmes, Helen Sullivan, Kathy (Alan) Gyles, Paul (Marina) Sullivan, Marge (Mike) Hannon, Michele (Ken) Bell, LeAnn (Brian) Barnett, Norine (George) Gill and Sister Laurie Sullivan; many Aunt's, Uncle's, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his father; David was preceded in death by his wife, Letty, in 2010; and by an infant brother, Patrick, in 1960.
The family will receive friends at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey on Saturday, May 11 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Ben Paris, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in Father Gauthier Hall. Interment will be made at Northland Chapel Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
