Wildcats finish 12th at GLIAC track meet

ASHLAND, Ohio - Northern Michigan University placed 12th in the three-day GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field championships that concluded Friday in Ashland, Ohio.

The Wildcat women totaled 16 points.

On Friday, NMU senior Colby West placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1 minute, 4.52 second clocking. A day earlier in qualifying, she broke a Northern record by coming in at 1:04.19.

In Friday's triple jump, junior Cheyenne Stewart came in fifth with an effort of 36 feet, 7 inches, while junior teammate Delaney Lovett was sixth with 35-10.75. On Thursday, Stewart was seventh in the long jump in 17-4.25.

Also Thursday, senior Mariah Beaman was seventh in the javelin with 110-4, while junior Mallory Celaya was eighth in the three-kilometer steeplechase.

In the heptathlon on Wednesday, senior Brooke Granquist of Powers finished seventh with 4,039 total points.

Granquist came in 10th during qualifying for the 800 to miss the top-eight finals by 1.4 seconds.

In addition, sophomore Brittni Wirtz missed qualifying for the finals in the 100 and 200 dashes, coming in ninth in the 100 and missing a top-eight finals spot by 0.01 of a second.

Sophomore Olivia Howard was 12th and junior Chelsea Farquhar 13th in the 10,000, each less than a minute from scoring points for a top-eight finish, while senior Rita Woitas was 21st in the 5,000.

NMU was 11th in the 4-by-400 relay.

Grand Valley ran away with the women's team title, scoring 220 points to 109 for runner-up Ashland. Lake Superior State was ninth with 35 and Michigan Tech 14th with 11.

For the men, Ashland outpointed GVSU, 199-169, for the title as LSSU was eighth with 35 and MTU 10th with 28.
