HILLMAN - A trip to downstate Hillman Saturday resulted in a tourney split for the Marquette Senior High School girls softball team.

Manager Paul Seibert's Redettes knocked off Rogers City, 7-3, in the opener before losing to host Hillman, 5-2.

MSHS got two hits, a run and two RBI from Amber Beaudry in the first game, which saw the Redettes score five runs in the fourth inning.

Courtney LaFreniere added a pair of hits, a run and knocked in a run, while MSHS teammate Hannah Johnson chipped in two safeties and a run.

Senja Liimatta took the mound win. In five innings, she allowed four hits and a walk while striking out five.

Rogers City is a real good team and had to earn everything they got," Seibert said.

"We hit the ball well. Beaudry hit the top of the center field fence for two runs in the fourth and that got us going."

Against Hillman, Marquette (6-3) led 1-0 before the host team plated five runs in the sixth frame.

"(My daughter) Morgan had pitched five innings and struck out 12, but got tired," Paul Seibert said. "I put Senja in and we committed three errors in the sixth. That opened the floodgates."

"Their pitcher (J. Pchorzynski) was pretty good and struck out 13. She definitely had us off balance."
