MARQUETTE - The Ramada Inn was evacuated this afternoon after hotel staff spotted a suspicious package, which was later deemed harmless, according to police.

The Marquette City Police Department received a report at 12:47 p.m. that a suspicious package had been located by hotel cleaning staff. Police said the Ramada was evacuated and an investigation showed that the package was a prank on a hotel patron.

Contractors who were staying at the hotel were playing a prank on the patron and left the container in his room. When staff found the package, police were contacted.

The patron, according to police, had been terminated from his job and was flying home when the package was discovered.

Police said the package was deemed harmless and that there was likely no malicious intent.
