MARQUETTE - Able to play its first match of the season at an indoor facility in Marinette, Wis., the Marquette Senior High School boys tennis team forged a 4-4 tie with Menominee on Monday.
The Redmen of head coach Charlie Drury won three of four singles matches, with Kyle King at No. 3 helping the cause with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win over the Maroons' Nate Antilla.
"We got a nice match out of King," Drury said. "We're a young team and he's one of the few seniors we have. It was a real competitive match."
Josh Downs at No. 1 singles and Noah Gannon at No. 4 also posted wins for MSHS, as did the No. 1 doubles unit of Mike Edwards and Matt Collins.
"We hadn't been on a court before the match (due to inclement weather), so it was nice to get a match in," Drury said. "Under the circumstances, the guys played well."
